(UPDATE) The low pressure area east of Eastern Samar intensified into Tropical Depression Jolina and was headed to Northern Luzon on Monday, with another storm, Kiko, on its trail, PAGASA said.
Jolina, the 10th storm of 2021 was located at 205 kilometers east southeast of Guiuan town at 10 a.m., the weather bureau said.
Jolina is expected to intensify into a tropical storm by Wednesday before making landfall over Northern Luzon by Thursday, when it is seen to weaken as it moves over rugged terrains, said PAGASA.
Another tropical depression, which will be named Kiko, could join Jolina inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Wednesday, the weather bureau said. It could intensify into a severe tropical storm by Friday.
The tropical cyclone that will be named Kiko was located 1,535 km east of Virac, Catanduanes as of 10 a.m., PAGASA said.
Expect moderate to heavy rains over Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte including Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands in the next 24 hours, PAGASA said.
Signal no. 1, or winds of 30-60 kph, is raised over:
- Sorsogon
- Northern Samar
- Samar
- Eastern Samar
- Dinagat Islands
- Siargao Islands
- Bucas Grande Islands
Up to three storms could enter PAR in September, PAGASA said earlier.
