Photos from the Department of Transportation released Wednesday showed what the Philippine National Railways Calamba Station would look like once construction finished.
The station in Calamba, Laguna will be part of the North-South Commutr Railway or NSCR project which runs for 56 kilometers. It will connect Solis Street in Tondo, Manila to Laguna and is projected to accommodate 340,000 to 550,000 passengers daily.
Once fully operational, the line will slash travel time between Manila and Calamba to just one hour instead of the usual three to four hours.
According to Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade, construction on the station would generate employment opportunities for Filipinos, "aabot sa higit 10,000 na trabaho."
Included in the NSCR project are the two phases for PNR Clark. Trains for the PNR Clark Phase 1, which is seen to reduce travel time between Tutuban and Malolos, will arrive in December 2021.
PNR Clark Phase 2 will slash travel time between Clark, Pampanga and Malolos, Bulacan to 35 minutes from one hour and 30 minutes. The Airport Express will be part of this phase, ferrying passengers from Clark International Airport to Makati in Metro Manila in just 55 minutes.
