The Philippines on Wednesday logged 12,751 COVID-19 cases as Metro Manila faces a week-long extension of MECQ.

There are now 2,134,005 cumulative cases since the pandemic began, with 151,135 active cases.

There were 174 deaths and 20,151 recoveries reported, bringing totals to 34,672 and 1,948,198 respectively.

Granular lockdowns were set to be piloted in the capital region starting Wednesday, but the decision was taken back late Tuesday night, sparking frustration among restarants owners and workers preparing for dine-in services to resume.

Vaccination targets were bumped up from 70% to 90%, or at least 90 million Filipinos inoculated in the first quarter of 2022, to achieve herd immunity as the country battles renewed surges due to the Delta variant.
