Senate President Vicente Sotto III on Saturday received his first dose of Sinovac's COVID-19 vaccine, being part of the A2 priority sector composed of senior citizens.

The 72-year-old Senate leader got immunized along with his wife, actress Helen Gamboa.

"After A1, A2, and A3 Senate employees, finally had mine although I’m A2. I took what was available upon arrival. Had Sinovac!" Sotto told reporters.

The Senate prioritized its employees in its COVID-19 vaccination program, with health workers, senior citizens, and persons with comorbidities working in the chamber getting the first in line.

Sotto last week said 73% of all Senate employees had been vaccinated against the disease. They are aiming to inoculate all members of the Senate community before opening of the Third Regular Session of the 18th Congress in July to ensure continuous legislative work.
