Why Does PAGASA Name Typhoons After People?
Here's what you need to know about Typhoon Bising, the second storm to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility this year.
Will Bising make landfall?
No, based on PAGASA's forecast at 5 a.m. Saturday. However, it could still change direction, said forecaster Loriedin dela Cruz since it is a "dynamic" system.
What is the track of Bising?
Bising is moving west northwestand could hover off the eastern Philippines through most of next week, without the eye hitting land. However, Bising is relatively large and the edge of the storm could stir rains on the eastern coast, Dela Cruz said.
Bising was forecast to move closer to Eastern Visayas by Saturday and closer to Southern Luzon in 48 hours, she said. By Tuesday, it will be closer to the eastern portion of Central Luzon and closer to Northern Luzon by Wednesday. By Thursday, Bising was expected to be close to the northern tip of Luzon.
What are the hazards from Bising?
Heavy rains as early as Sunday in Eastern Visayas and Southern Luzon, Dela Cruz said. These could cause flash floods and landslides.
As early as Friday, the Department of Transportation suspended land and sea travel from ports in the Bicol region, including Matnog in Sorsogon.
Which areas are under wind signals?
As of Saturday morning, the lowest wind signal has been raised in several areas. Dela Cruz said the signal could go as high as signal number 2.
The following areas are under Signal no. 1 (30-60 kph) wherein the wind can snap twigs, tilt banana trees and cause very minimal damage to light structures. Signal no 2 brings winds that can unroof dilapilated structures.
