The Philippines on Tuesday logged 13,827 after President Rodrigo Duterte said he would reboot the country's pandemic startegy given the threat of the Delta variant.

The day's total brings cumulative number of cases since the pandemic began to 1,989,857. Of that number, 145,562 are active.

There were 118 deaths and 16,759 recoveries recorded, bringing totals to 33,448 and 1,810,847 respectively.

MECQ in Metro Manila and other high-risk areas was extended until Sept. 7 to curb rising COVID cases. Authorities are looking to granular lockdowns in the coming weeks and months as the country prepares to shift out of province-wide quarantines.

Record highs have been tallied throughout August, with the highest ever logged on Monday with 22,366 cases. Filipinos may see a continuous rise as Delta is now the majority variant in the country, according to the Department of Health.
