The Philippines on Sunday logged 2,605 new COVID-19 cases as the government allowed minors in Metro Manila to go out of their homes for leisure activities under Alert Level 2, resulting to thick weekend crowds.
The day's tally brought active cases to 33,526. The DOH also reported 3,901 new recoveries and 191 new deaths.
Overall, a total of 2,803,213 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 2,725,257 have recovered and 44,430 died.
Metro Manila shifted to Alert Level 2 on Nov. 5 allowing businesses and establishments to operate at higher capacities.
Under Alert Level 2, those under 18 years old are allowed in establishments that can operate at a maximum 50% capacity indoors and 70% capacity outdoors.
The MMDA also said children and senior citizens could take public transportation as intrazonal and interzonal travel restrictions in the capital region were lifted.
