The Philippines on Saturday logged 1,474 new COVID-19 cases as the government approved booster shots for overseas Filipino workers set for deployment.
The day's tally brought active cases to 22,070. The DOH also reported 2,565 new recoveries and 205 deaths.
Overall, a total of 2,824,499 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 2,755,526 have recovered and 46,903 died.
The Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 has allowed OFWs set for deployment within the four months to get booster shots so that they can secure their livelihood and employment contracts.
OFWs belong to the A1 priority group along with medical frontliners who started receiving their booster shots on Nov. 17.
Once they are allowed to get the third dose, OFWs will still need to follow the protocols which means only those who have completed their vaccination six months ago or more can receive the booster shot.
After the third jabs have been given to the A1 priority group, senior citizens (A2) and persons with comorbidities (A3) are next in line.
