DOH Reports 5,867 New COVID Cases as Bubble Takes Hold

The Philippines on Tuesday reported its lowest daily COVID-19 case tally in over a week with over 5,000 new infections, a day after it tightened restrictions in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

The Department of Health recorded 5,867 new COVID-19 cases, to bring the total number of active infections to 86,200.

Twenty new deaths were reported, bringing the total to 12,992. The DOH also reported 620 new recoveries, increasing the total to 578,461.

Since the start of the pandemic, the Philippines has reported a total of 677, 653 COVID-19 cases.

Prior to Tuesday's tally, the country has been reporting over 7,000 new COVID-19 cases for the past week, with the highest breaching the 8,000-mark on Monday.

The surge in infections has prompted tighter restrictions Metro Manila, Bulacan, Laguna, Rizal and Cavite, which form a bubble called NCR Plus. It is shceduled to last until April 4.
