Floods spawned by Typhoon Jolina (Conson) displaced thousands in the island province of Masbate on Tuesday, authorities said. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
Jolina, the 10th storm of 2021, blew roofs off houses and stirred rough waves, washing debris to the shore. It was expected to make landfall in Quezon province later in the day before heading to Central Luzon on Wednesday.
In Mobo town, nearly 4,000 residents in coastal villages were evacuated, the municipal disaster office said on Facebook.
In Dimasalang, fisherfolks pulled their boats to higher ground to salvage their livelihood. Authorities have begun distributing relief supplies.
In Masbate City, the roof of some houses made with light materials in coastal areas were blown off while some trees were uprooted. Residents were seen clearing the debris swept in by strong waves.
