Magnitude 5.6 Earthquake Jolts Occidental Mindoro

A Magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck Mindoro island on Sunday morning, Phivolcs said as it warned of possible aftershocks and damage.

The quake struck northwest of Sablayan town, Occidental Mindoro at 5:59 a.m. It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 10 kilometers, according to state seimologists.

The following intensities were reported:

Intensity III - Weak: Felt by many people indoors especially on upper floors of buildings:

  • San Jose, Occidental Mindoro

Intensity II - Slightly Felt: Felt by few individuals at rest indoors. Hanging objects swing slightly:

  • Batangas City

Intensity I - Scarcely Perceptible: Perceptible to people under favorable circumstances:

  • Mulanay and Mauban, Quezon; Tagaytay City
