Power distributor Meralco said Friday it would increase its rates for June, citing the higher cost of buying electricity.
The country's largest power utility said it was implementing a P0.0798 increase per kilowatt-hour (kWh). This means that a typical household consuming 200 kWh could see a P16 increase in its total bill.
Meralco said the generation charge for June also saw a slight increase at P4.6171 per kWh from last month’s P4.5474 per kWh, citing tight supply conditions in the Luzon Grid.
Parts of Luzon at the start of the month saw power outages which the Department of Energy attributed to the forced and unplanned outages of several major power plants.
