President Rodrigo Duterte's PDP-Laban party said Wednesday it was open to adopt Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio should he agree to run for vice president in 2022.

This will make a Duterte-Duterte daughter-father ticket "possible" should the Davao mayor run to succeed her father, said party secretary general Melvin Matibag.

"Kapag tumakbo [si Mayor Sara] at marami namang gustong sumuporta sa party, meron namang proseso. So possibility yan, we are open to that," Matibag said.

The PDP-Laban national council meeting on May 31 adopted a resolution urging President Duterte to run for vice president next year and allowing him to choose his running mate.

Duterte-Carpio has her own regional political party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago, although Matibag said her political ideologies are not far off from that of PDP-Laban.

"Si Mayor Sara, whatever she's doing is aligned with what PDP is doing. Hindi naman siya malayo sa partido," he said. Adopting Duterte-Carpio into PDP-Laban, however, needs the consensus of the party's membership, he said.

The President said he was "resisting" the call for him to run for vice president next year, adding that he already wanted to retire from politics. He also said he advised Duterte-Carpio against running for president.

Matibag hoped that Duterte could give a more indicative decision before PDP-Laban holds its national assembly on July 17, where they will discuss their plans for the 2022 elections.
