The Philippines on Thursday tallied 12,439 new COVID-19 cases as lockdowns persist and vaccinations run 24/7, the Department of Health said.
This is the second day straight that country recorded more than 12,000 cases. On Wednesday, there were 12,021 cases, numbers that mirrored the surge back in April.
Thursday's tally brought the total number of active cases to 87,663. The DOH also recorded 165 deaths and 6,090 recoveries, bringing total deaths to 29,339 and total recoveries to 1,583,161.
Metro Manila still has eight days in lockdown or ECQ left, with millions of Filipinos required to stay at home to curb the spread of the super-contagious Delta variant. Vaccinations are also being ramped up in different cities as more doses arrive.
The Philippines has so far fully vaccinated 10 million people, compared to the target 50 million to 70 million this year.
