10,000 New Cases Tallied Ahead of ECQ Decision

The Department of Health tallied more than 10,000 new COVID-19 infections on Tuesday, with authorities set to decide this week on the fate of lockdowns in Metro Manila and other areas.

Tueday's 10,035 cases brought the total number of active cases to 105,787 and the cumulative total since the pandemic started to 1,765,765.

There were 96 deaths and 10,858 recoveries, bringing the totals to 30,462 and 1,629,426, respectively.

Demoralized hospital staff are resigning as Delta cases surge more than a year since the pandemic began. Industries and establishments reliant on physical interaction and travel continue to struggle as lockdowns keep the public at home.

Metro Manila and other high-risk areas are under ECQ, which is expected to last until Aug. 20. Authorities are yet to decide on a possible extension to curb the spread of COVID's most infectious variant.

Vaccinations have gone 24/7 in an effort to inoculate at least 50 million Filipinos before the year ends. Perks and rewards are also granted to vaccinated individuals to boost trust in the jabs.
