Meralco said Monday it would extend the suspension of all disconnections until April 30, when the MECQ in the capital region and surrounding arteas is expected to end.
The power distributor initially announced the suspension of disconnection activities until April 15 after Metro Manila, Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal were placed under enhanced community quarantine or ECQ for two weeks. The lockdown was loosened one notch to modified ECQ or MECQ.
“We hope this extension will help lessen the burden of our customers and provide enough relief and time for them to settle their bills,” Meralco FVP and chief commercial officer Ferdinand Geluz said.

Meralco added that it would continue its operations during the MECQ period, including meter reading and bill delivery services.
“Meralco crews will also continue to be on standby 24/7 to respond to any emergencies and reports,” Geluz added.
Metro Manila, Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal are under MECQ until April 30. Also placed under MECQ are Santiago City, Quirino, and Abra.
