The number coding scheme in Metro Manila is suspended on Monday, Aug. 29, as the country celebrates National Heroes Day, the MMDA said Sunday.

This means that vehicles with plate numbers ending with 1 and 2 can ply Metro Manila roads on that day during the coding hours of 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Number coding during the morning rush hour was recently reinstated as EDSA records heavy volume of vehicles as many employees return to their offices and students resume face-to-face classes.

Under the scheme, the following plate numbers are prohibited along major thoroughfares in the metro:

  • Monday - 1 and 2
  • Tuesday - 3 and 4
  • Wednesday - 5 and 6
  • Thursday - 7 and 8
  • Friday - 9 and 0

Exempted from the number coding are PUVs including tricycles, transport network vehicle services, motorcycles, garbage trucks, fuel trucks, marked government vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances, marked media vehicles, and motor vehicles carrying essential and/or perishable goods.
